A Sedona Engagement Session

When I look back on this session, I am filled with so much gratitude for the career I’ve built for myself, and for the clients and couples who make it possible. As is my favorite beginning to many stories - they found me because of my work with dogs. Olivia wanted to make sure their beloved puppy girl Charlie would be included in their wedding and engagement photos as much as she could be. And when I did this engagement session, they were about a week away from moving out of Sedona, so they asked me if I would travel and do the session there, as it is a special place for them.

Traveling for work may be a wonderful perk for a lot of jobs, where you may have a few hours after work to explore and take some photos. But my work took me here for the PURPOSE of taking those photos. How cool is that! This kind of day reminds me that I am definitely in the right profession.

Yes I may live and work in a destination town of its own, but my soul craves mountains, clouds, red dirt. What it doesn’t crave is the heat of Arizona, however. The timeline of events made it so my only window to go there was in July, when many people flee the heat. When I landed in Phoenix, they were having record high temps. The walk between the plane and the gate was oven-like. So I was happy to be renting a car and exiting toward higher ground immediately. And Sedona’s weather was not only kinder and much milder, but provided these stunning, glowy clouds! As I drove, the sky ahead gave me a beautiful distant view of thunder clouds and lightning, guiding me forward to those eventful skies, and I kept begging them to stay… but not to rain on us. And I got just that. The rain began right when I returned to my hotel that night.

This session is also a very special memory for me, because it was the last time I was able to travel solo before my baby arrived. During the drive, I listened to an audio book about natural birth. I am still not in the phase of my business where travel is all that common, and now with baby, it’s even more difficult. But I love it. And Sedona was the most epic spot for my last pre-baby adventure.

That being said, I can still travel, and I would love to make your destination wedding or engagement photo dreams a reality! Baby and hubby will just have to come along too.
