The Floppiest Spring Session with a German Shepherd Pup
What could be more perfect than a teenage puppy frolicking in the grass in springtime? One with flippity floppity ears!
This is Deckard, german shepherd and little brother to an old friend of mine, the beautiful Anja, who sadly passed away recently. I know she taught Deckard a lot about how to be a good dog in the short time they were together, and he will carry on her impressive mantle.
I had been following along via Facebook as he sprouted, and was SO excited to meet Deckard and capture all his fuzzy baby glory! And he did not disappoint! Not only did his ears flip and flop and bedazzle, but that crinkly downy fur puppies keep behind and under their ears… is one of earth’s greatest treasures.
So we did some running, some sniffing, some smiling, some flirting, and even the occasional listening, on this beautiful spring evening in Santa Barbara.
I’ve always had a great love for german shepherds. Perhaps because of their intelligence and how they make you earn their respect (you can’t just walk in and say platz - you have to be worthy of listening to!) But probably more than that, they’re just so darn good lookin! This handsome guy is of course a black german shepherd. People often say to me “my dog is too hard to take photos of because his fur is black so you can’t see his features in the pictures.” Well, here is proof that with the right skills and tools, it’s no problem!
